1972 - Government Reorganization
1972 State Government Reorganization
In the early 1970's the Governor and State Legislature passed historical legislation which significantly reorganized Minnesota government, including its financial systems.

It is often assumed and frequently heard that this reorganization resulted in the Office of the State Treasurer losing a number of its responsibilities to the Minnesota Management & Budget.

In fact, the Minnesota Management & Budget WAS CREATED at that time; however, its duties had been performed, for the most part, by the Office of the STATE AUDITOR prior to that time. The Office of the State Treasurer was not affected by that reorganization.
